    Mommy thoughts

Tuesday, June 10, 2008, 07:58 AM CST [General]

Sorry I seem to have a difficult time keeping up..lol.

I hope everyone is doing well.

My oldest graduated high school last week.

I was sad as I remembered him chasing after ice cream trucks, the difficult transitions of dropping him off at daycare...lol  now I'm the one having a difficult transition.

He says he's going to live at home for awhile, we'll see. He's not interested in driving and does not have a license.  His favorite thing to do is play video games. I look at him and sometimes see that little 7 year old boy playing video games.

My nine year old daughter made first honor roll the last grading period. Second honor roll several times in the year.

My three year old, keeps me on my toes...lol. Hugs me with such force I can't breathe..lol..and says to me...I love you mommy...my 18 year old still says he loves me...even in front of his friends when leaving..

I'm much blessed...I never finished college..never had a career or a job where I could really stand on my own and support my kids when I was single..but I am a mom, and I always will be.

I hope as they look back on their childhood, they will think I was the best.

A new day a new month

Sunday, June 1, 2008, 08:00 AM CST [General]

    A new day....

I greet  June 1 with a recital..this afternoon....yikes! Been practising for months now and hubby and I are going to play Paperback Writer, a 12 bar blues riff my guitar teacher taught us and we are playing guitar back up to two girls singing Let's Get together ...oh my hope is it all comes together well..lol.

Last week the Tibetan Monks were in town and I went to a bookstore and listened to a tea ritual that must have lasted 25 minutes..lol. The chanting was beautiful! There was a question and answer afterwards which was very interesting. I took pictures but I am unable to load my pictures from my camera to my computer. Not sure what is going on. I do know we need a new computer.

My oldest graduates from high school this week!

    A new month....

New beginnings this month as school is over, summer begins and my oldest starts a new chapter in his life.

I already have a few art projects in mind for the younger ones to do this summer and will post them soon, hopefully with pictures.

I need to go and make some snacks for the recital, I'm thinking mini zucchini muffins and some cool iced green tea.

    Many blessings to everyone!

    Black Elk Speaks

Thursday, May 22, 2008, 08:11 AM CST [General]

I just finished reading this wonderful book.

"The Power of the World always works in a circle." Black Elk said.

Living in square houses was a bad way to live according to Black Elk, "For there can be no power in a square."

"Everything the Power of the World does is done in a circle. The sky is round and I have heard that the earth is round like a ball, and so are the stars. The wind,in its greatest power, whirls.Birds make their nests in circles, for theirs is the same religion as ours. The sun comes forth and goes down again in a circle. The moon does the same, and both are round. Event he seasons form a great circle in their changing, and alays come back again to where they were."

"Our tepees were round like the nests of birds, and these were always set in a circle, the nations's hoop, a nest of many nests, where the Great Spirit meant for us to hatch our children."

I say indeed, life is a circle. And we live in squares.

    A day of animals

Wednesday, May 21, 2008, 10:34 PM CST [General]

My last blog did not go through and I lost it so I had to write it out again.

I watched the news last night. I usually don't and I wish I had not.

They showed video of horses going to  slaughter.  Packed as tightly as possible, horses were freaking out. Factory workers Using knives..steel bolts.. to kill them and  I don't know what else I could not watch. Then they showed video of downed cows and factory workers being extremely cruel to these animals..I just cried. I will be haunted by their faces forever.

My heart is breaking for these animals and the suffering they go through to be on a plate.

Gourmet, organic, whatever label you want to put on these sentient beings...the slaughter is the same..the suffering is the same. And it is horrific.

We could do better as human beings. We have so much potential...

On my way to take my oldest to school this morning I saw a turtle in the road. I dropped off my son then turned around and headed back towards the turtle.

It was sitting in the hot sun in the gutter. It could not climb the curb of course and any way it tried to travel it would have ended up dead. So I stopped my car put on my hazards and scooped up  a very exhausted and dry red eared slider. She was so exhausted she did not try to squirm or even pee...lol!

I drove to a boat dock (behind my son's school) and put her back in the lake. Thankful I was able to help her and thankful there was no traffic. People get all out of sorts when you are trying to rescue an animal off the road and you make them wait for a few seconds...lol.

Then picking my son up I found 2 baby birds huddled under cars in the parking lot. I know they are better off with their parents but these babies could not fly..and were in danger of being hit. So I picked them up, they settled in my arms and chirped...so cute!

I took them to a wildlife rescue where they will be taken care of and released when old enough.

So, I helped 3 animals. Not exactly cows or horses in the slaughter house but I made an impact. My children observed and learned how to help creatures and these creatures got a second chance at life.

It has been a day of animals..and for these little creatures...it has been a good day indeed.

    Namaste
